Dallas To Get Remastered In HD

Wow. Another gem of a scene. Thank you @Garry . God I wish the producers/writers increased the intensity of Dallas after the death of Bobby. The focus really should have been the fight between JR & Pam and this scene alone tells me both actors were primed for that fight.

Missed opportunity.

Although I have issues with how the scene is edited -- during her most intense lines, the camera remains on Larry's face the entire time.

But yes, they later missed the boat in the dream season by writing away from the conflict between Pam and J.R. at Ewing Oil, with the Angelica Nero story (which was created by Katzman in what some feel was an attempt to curb Pam's momentum, even though he had little control over how the story developed) now the focus. So Pam might as well have not been there.

I mean, I seriously want Pam and JR to have a physical fight in the office, two thirds of the way through the dream season, at Ewing Oil. Ending with JR closing his office door on her, her butt to the door, she glances over at the shocked and speechless secretaries, smiles slightly, and returns to her office in silence.

But, oh, two Aquarius Risings can fight and slap each other like crazy. (Cliff was one too; so was Pamela Sue).

But after Pam threatened J.R. over the wild goose chase he sent her on, and she vowed to join the battle against Ewing Oil, there should have been something she did in that effort, some small gesture, that played a role in Bobby being successfully run down by year's end. Leaving Pam to blame herself, for more valid reason that she did, for Bobby's death -- classic DALLAS biblical irony.

But Lenny didn't like the Southfork women to ever quite rise to the occasion.

It felt like they didn't wish to broach the subject but isn't this exactly what Dallas had been leaning in to? It was like all the planets had aligned from the moment "that Barnes woman" was introduced to the Ewing family.

Pam at Ewing Oil indeed feels like the series' potential peak, but not everyone behind the camera was interested in any of the Ewing women kickin' ass and takin' names. Unless it was some bleach blonde in the later seasons with a beer in one hand and a smokin' pistol in the other, buying out the company with her pocket change. Which I guess was too campy to really be threatening.

I just started Season 8, Episode 8 - "The Oil Baron's Ball III". This is Donna Reed's second episode as "Miss Ellie". She made her debut in Episode 7 but she was not included in the opening credits on that episode she was credited as the episode starts along with the supporting cast. Beginning with Episode 8 she was added to the opening credits. When she was added to the opening the theme had to be extended.

Guess what? The "geniuses" at Warner Bros. screwed up again! They used the wrong opening credit visuals for Episode 8! They used the opening credits sequence that does not include Donna Reed but with the extended version of the theme, so after Leonard Katzman's producing credit the screen goes black and the theme continues to play until it reaches the end and then the episode starts!

Donna Reed gets no credit for even being on this episode!

EDIT: I'm on Episode 9 and they went back to the shortened version of the theme from earlier in the season and Donna Reed is not included in the opening credits. So that is 2 episodes so far that she is not credited at all.

I skipped to Episode 10 and they finally used the correct opening credits and Donna is credited.

WHAT A MESS.

If this show gets released to Blu-ray they better go back and fix all of this up.

Unfortunately, color and clarity often act in opposition to one another. I love the new HD imagery, but a little color regrading would be nice.

I sincerely doubt it. Whoever is in charge of remastering of the opening and closing credit sequences obviously doesn't give a damn about trying to be respectful of the material. They don't care about maintaining the standard of the shows original credit sequence visuals.

The remit was probably to concentrate on the episode footage itself rather than to ensure that the opening sequence visuals matched the original sequences or the end credits.

It's nothing but a lack of professionalism with zero respect for the show itself by making all these mistakes. :(

I thought they hired a special artist to take care especially for the openig credits?!

J.R. puts Sue Ellen in the best place!
No, no!! Not THAT place, "You had me caged like an animal!"
Even better scene follows this one, where Sue Ellen delivers her sad monologue to Bobby that tells us a lot about her life with JR and that Cliff is the father of her unborn baby (as they thought then) and that kiss she lands on her unsuspecting brother in law. Oooh I'm getting carried away, I should comment on the HD......just brilliant thank you @Garry

This is what happened: the special artist fell ill. Warner decided to replace him with a more elegant artist. But the elegant one was shunned by his colleagues and the result is what DarkVader described (for Season 8 Episodes 8 and 9)! After that the elegant artist was fired and the other special artist returned to work after feeling better.

All joking aside, the graphic artists were hired to re-do the opening credit visuals for Seasons 10-14 because those were edited on videotape.

From Seasons 1 - 9, Dallas was filmed and edited on 35 mm film stock including the opening credits. The openings did not have to be redone, all that needed to be done was a High Def scan of the original camera negative, so I am not sure what went wrong here.
