Dallas To Get Remastered In HD

Concretely, from this season Dallas was entirely paradoxical.

Each of the characters was over the top in dialogue and performance. And even the interpretation of Barbara Bel Geddes was awkward and funny, but still qualitatively superior to that of the other main characters.

Totally funny and comical was the role of Callie, but also those of secondary characters considered as serious, Tammy Miller and Tracy McKay.

This show no longer has the Dallas characteristics of the first seasons, perhaps it is a parody of those seasons, but contrary to many fans who have never bought the DVDs of these last seasons, I have consciously spent my money on these which I consider however the same television product.

Including the next two movies and the three seasons of TNT Dallas, with the relative inconsistencies and absurdities permitted by Cidre.

And even the interpretation of Barbara Bel Geddes
It's been a long time since I've viewed this scene as my DVD collection of Dallas finishes with Swan Song but I have to admit watching this makes me cringe. I feel embarrassed for Barbara Bel Geddes having to share screen time with Cathy Podewell. Yes I get some on this forum will come to the defence of Cathy and I'm all for it but good grief this was bad compared to what we were use to.

Two Mrs Ewings at the Oil Barons Ball.

This scene illustrates the difference between early Dallas and the later years. Early Dallas was driven by its high stakes drama. Later Dallas became a parody of itself. How could the writers and producers not see the damage they were doing?

Someone at CBS should have pulled the plug after the death of Pam.

There are some of us of course who believe Pam wasn't the be all and end all of Dallas. I agree Victoria left at the right time as regards to the writing, but the writing had already began to decline before she left.
I also hated seeing Barbara Bel Geddes in those scenes, nothing against Cathy Podewell (well only a bit) but her character was awful in a terrible storyline.
Attempting to keep up with their rivals and incorporating ridiculous unbelievable stories and characters was the downfall of Dallas. Had it continued as it was originally known, it might've lasted, even without Pam.

This has been debated rigorously on this forum over the years. The character of Pam was pivotal in creating the friction in those early years and what kept the drama humming along. Once Pam left the building that drama so central to Dallas left. I'd go so far in asking, "Why did Cliff hang around?"

Oh my this was a tough watch. This is my first time seeing this as I effectively stopped watching DALLAS after Victoria left the show. It comes off as a bad comedic spoof of itself. The production values were lacking - it's obvious this was mastered on videotape and it gives the show a cheap, almost daytime television soap opera look rather than the prime-time television drama that it once was. This was really, really bad that it almost gives me second thoughts if I should even waste my time to see the last seasons after I am done with Season 10.

Pam's character without Bobby worked albeit with difficulty, Bobby's character after Pam's disappearance was just too boring.
Sadly, I don’t think either character was the same without the other to bounce off of. Pam with Mark after Bobby’s “death” was acceptable for me but only to a certain extent. It just wasn’t the same as Pam and Bobby. But Bobby without Pam felt much worse for me. His best chemistry was definitely with her, and with most other women post-Pam he looked kind of lost and uninteresting, except for maybe April. They had some chemistry but it still never quite felt the same in my opinion.

In the absence of Pam from whom he was now divorced, Bobby could - in my opinion - marry Kay Llyod.
I could‘ve accepted Bobby marrying Kay. She wasn’t the most exciting character and together they might’ve been a bit bland but at the very least they were quite the photogenic couple. I liked the dynamic of the oil/political power part of their relationship and I can definitely see J.R. approving of a sister in law with that much clout in Washington. Well, at least at first anyway.

Only with Jaclyn Smith!!!

after watching that latter-day Oil Barons’ Ball scene posted above I think Bobby should have initiated a shocking partnership with Marilee Stone, both romantically and in business.

Stonewing Oil would have had the power and clout to take on the Weststars of the world and Bobby and Marilee could have been a surprisingly stable and supportive yet physically passionate and vigorous couple.

Well with the way technology is going these days they'll soon be able to morph Donna Reed's image into that of Barbara Bel Geddes. :)
Don't tempt me...because you know I can do things like that...

I wouldn't have went that far but the producers should have extended the role of Marilee. Rather than bring in those woeful actors and weak storylines in the later seasons they should have her take over the void when Wendell was arrested and disposed of. Put her in a real position of power and have JR lust after her. Her condition? Dump that bitch of a wife Sue Ellen and she was to become the new Mrs Ewing.

Can you imagine Marilee at Southfork? Her relationship with John Ross Ewing III? And the stinging barbs exchanged between Marilee and Sue Ellen?

What a thrilling ride.
