Dallas To Get Remastered In HD

Miss Texas 1967

Telly Talk Addict
Too bad that "The Colbys" isn't in possession of Warners anymore, because then it maybe would get the HD treatmant as well. :eyes:
I recall The Colbys being reasonable video quality. Much like Dynasty which looks a lot better than Dallas on DVD.
I'd like Paper Dolls or Flamingo Road to be cleaned up. The Paper Dolls DVD is fine but in some Youtube clips the quality is brighter and nicer than the DVD which is strange.

But surely now that Dynasty has got the HD treatment The Colbys is likely to as well?

And I see today that all of Dallas Season 9 is now available in HD on itunes/AppleTV+ ... how ironic that the second full season available in HD is the dream season!

Are the movies there too? And if so, are they in HD? :)
yes they are there but don't know because I haven't purchased them because I don't like them lol

Are you sure they are in HD? How can you tell?

I'm looking at AppleTV and they are displaying the HD symbol over episodes which when you purchase them are only in SD

yes I'm sure, I have purchased the seasons last year and when I checked last week, all the episodes are in HD , you can clearly see the difference when your watch them, I have the episodes on the french Apple TV and they are still in sd,

We can only hope! I think eventually it will to be honest but it might take a little time. But slowly but surely I’m hoping we get everything remastered.

I’m not sure why I feel this way but I’m actually looking forward to seeing the dream season in HD. Perhaps the thought of seeing Angelica’s flamboyant wardrobe in high def is too much to pass up?

It actually looks really striking ... the art direction for that season is very colourful and its beautiful in HD
Wasn't that year's AD work of the guy who designed the Star Trek spaceship Enterprise? I loved the look of the dream season.

I’m sure it is. One of my favorite things about that season was the colorful and fancy look. It was very different than what we were used to seeing on Dallas yet I thought it was a nice change to have a different look for awhile.
Everything in the early episodes was either blue or acid yellow. So late 80s though!

@Garry Do you know if this time they managed the theme tune for season 13 in Stereo as it was supposed to be? Because up until now, some episodes of that season featured only the left-channel-version with the violins in the foreground and others with the drums in the forground and the violins barely noticable, which is actually supposed to be on the right channel for the whole season.

If they did it correct this time, there will be as well a great effect right at the start when "DALLAS" fades in, as that "swooooush" actually goes from left to the right and is a nice stereo-effect and the theme sounds really great in Stereo! Hope they didn't mess it up again...

I always thought that was deliberate on the part of the music editor as a way of extending the theme ... it was dumb, yes, but also fairly common practice at the time as a way of creating 'variation' within the music; eg you must have noticed on the first season of Dynasty there is a whole chunk of the main theme missing from the music, as if a track has been left out deliberately

Your guess is as good as mine. This mistake has already been done on season ten and by the looks of it it's been done on season eleven too.

Whoever is doing the remastering obviously hasn't checked the original episodes to ensure they keep the show as it was. A shame. :(

LOTS of graphics mistakes on the newly remastered prints unfortunately.
So far I've noticed:

* Season 12 titles say "A Lorimar-Telepictures Production" (obviously ported over from Season 10/11) when they should say Lorimar Television (which was changed midway through Season 11 so doubtlessly those Season 11 eps are wrong too).
* No attempt made to match leading or even actual font for actor credits for Charlene Tilton and Sheree J. Wilson on Season 12 titles - they have approximated it, but it is not identical and that sticks out like the proverbial dog's balls.
* Wrong title sequence (no Donna Reed credit) for Season 8 episode 8
* The point size, leading and even font style itself vary from one credit to the next on the end credits of Season 13 episodes, which is incredibly jarring and looks so, well, UNPROFESSIONAL. Sloppy sloppy sloppy work. Obviously farmed out to some junior graphic artist and no one at Warner Bros bothered to check any of the results against the original. What ever happened to quality control??!

Right, thanks for that.

I'm not going to waste my money on buying the Blu-ray's now. :(

What a ruddy nuisance I was really looking forward to getting the Blu-ray release of the remastered episodes.

Now that's been tainted because Warner's had someone in charge of the graphical remastering of the opening and closing credits who obviously didn't know what they were doing.

I am not amused. :(

Well, it's probably true that only hardcore fans will notice or care.

And maybe not even all hardcore fans. I notice things like incorrect kerning, leading and font subtleties because it's my job. Probably nine people out of ten won't notice at all, and if you point it out they'll say "Huh? I can't see any difference." Not many people even know what kerning or leading is (including, apparently, the people at Warners who approved the restored graphics!)

Could you send some examples of these clumsy manipulations, if possible? Seeing the differences might be helpful for many of us.

Thanks anyway :)
