Maybe he's coming out as "queer" instead of gay. I just can't get behind it.
I'm sure Raphael has no problem finding men willing to "get behind it".

No, the "queer" thing just killed it for me.I'm sure Raphael has no problem finding men willing to "get behind it".

I heard a gay activist on TV a couple of weeks ago who also said he felt the use of the word was a bad idea, and yet he kept referencing the LGBTQ acronym without irony.I'm so sick of people using "queer" as if it's acceptable; I had to hear this word as an insult growing up, I don't want to hear it continued to be used. I've heard people say "we're taking it back" or "we own it now". If I owned it I'd take it out back, shoot it and bury it.

I am starting to get confused by this...it seems to me only gay men play gay men on TV shows nowadays? Has it really come to that? Do they ask for gay actors to come to the auditions?
Okay so far I have only four examples. Rafael de la Fuente, Anthony Rapp from Star Trek Discovery AND the guy who plays his boyfriend. And one of the gay guys on Modern Family is gay in real life.
Do heteros try stay away from playing gay men?

I've also heard the same argument but then I'm reminded how for many years gay men played straight roles. Think Rock Hudson. You are right when you say this:some social justice warriors who insist that only a gay man can realistically portray a gay man.
I've always believed in employing the best person for the job. When it comes to acting, I think talent trumps sexuality.
That´s not exactly true: Ryan Murphy also hires gay actors to play straight roles. The point is the actor has to be gay...or any of the letters in LGTetc.
On "Glee" half of the actors who played straight characters have also come out of the "locker" (I know, dumb joke...). On "Transparent" I´d say that Judith Light is the only non-gay actress. Also take a look at "Orange Is The New Black" or, well, just wait a couple of years and see how many of the "Game of Thrones" young actors will come out (there are some rumors out there already...hush, hush...). And of course, Chaz Bono will always play guys, especially lumberjacks.
Anyway, I do remember some actors who played gays and are NOT gay: Jeff Perry on "Scandal" (and also, spoiler alert,I don´t know if the gay guys from "How to Get Away with Murder" are gay, but they are quite believable to be honest. Most actors say that audiences should not know anything about their private lives so they would be able to do a better job, and I sort of agree.Jack Coleman in a couple of episodes...yes, THAT one!)![]()
Source?Josh Henderson is also gay ... but only after 10 beers. He's a handsy young lad.
My dreams?Source?
