Thre Dynasty continuation or whatever it is on Netflix makes me want sunglasses looking at it, and I have no desire whatsoever to see that happen to Dallas.

Dallas lives in my heart, it’s part of me, I don’t want or need it to come back with a bunch of people I don’t know who will likely be cast from reality tv.
It's a shame that netflix doesn't publish any numbers regarding their audience. CW Dynasty is really a remarkable case.

I know quite a few people who watch that show. They are all under 25 years old and don't have a clue (nor care if told) that a series like that ran successfully in the 80s.

I watched a few minutes, but I never got the allusion that the 80s audience is a target group. Netflix' target group is aged from 16-34 years old.

I get the impression that reboots, remakes are chosen (instead of new ideas) because it is easier to convince the finances of something which worked before, even if it's the title only.

I highly doubt that the announced reboots of Little house on the prairie or highway to heaven are intended for the die hard fans of the 70s/80s either.

‘Needs’ is a very strong word. Why would you want Dallas’ brand and memory to be tarnished by some glossy reboot which is likely only going to appeal to a glossy teenage/millennial audience?

No thanks. Why does everything have to be rebooted?

That’s the main thing I don’t understand nowadays.

The Dynasty continuation or whatever it is on Netflix makes me want sunglasses looking at it, and I have no desire whatsoever to see that happen to Dallas.

Dallas lives in my heart, it’s part of me, I don’t want or need it to come back with a bunch of people I don’t know who will likely be cast from reality tv.

It’s more important to me that Dallas is respected for what it was - is - if TNT couldn’t achieve that, what hope would some reboot have? Only diehard fans would get the story and references and younger or new fans would be talking about it like something it isn’t or never was.

I just can’t see the attraction at all.

I'm being realistic. Warner Bros. at this point won't care about the established Dallas fanbase.

They will be looking to make a show which will be successful and pull in money.

Following the disastrous performance worldwide of the TNT Dallas series made by Cyntax they will be wary about commissioning another continuation series. Personally I don't blame them.

Any future for Dallas lies with a complete reboot. As sacrilegious as that sounds to the ears of the die hard Dallas fans, Warner Bros. will only bring the show back if it could be a hit again.

Warner's were probably hoping that the existing fans would get behind the TNT Cyntax Dallas but since that show was a complete failure they will be reticent in producing a show purely to accommodate the Dallas fans.

I'm sorry but the only possible future for Dallas is a complete reboot with new actors. As much as it pains me to admit it, the Lorimar Dallas and the Cyntax TNT Dallas continuation from it are dead and finished. I'm saddened by that because I love the original Lorimar Dallas but I have to be realistic, Lorimar Dallas is dead. :( The only way forward now is with a complete series reboot.

If a complete reboot is ever made it will be made for the "current" TV audience, producers won't think about the show's legacy or the fans of Lorimar Dallas, they will be aiming it at a brand new audience and hope that some of the old fans come along and will probably pay some lip service for them.

We had our Dallas and we are still talking about it here today, our love for the show will never diminish - but why should we begrudge a whole new audience being able to watch a brand new-look series, rebooted for the modern era, reflecting today's society...where greed in business is bigger than ever.

Dallas should definitely have a seat at the table for any new reboot discussions but as @Via The Void said, it needs to be it's own series, it's own entity and be able to go about and create it's own vision of the characters.

We have our beloved Dallas, let a new generation have theirs....and maybe a few of us oldies will enjoy it too.

The Lorimar Dallas will always be with us.

We grew up with it, we enjoyed it from start to finish on TV.

If Warner Bros. are brave enough maybe they will commission a rebooted version of it. Dallas has a central concept which is very watchable, the infamous Barnes Ewing feud. It would be so easy to translate that for a modern audience. However, is Warner Bros. ready to take a gamble with the show and reboot it for the 2020's, as usual time will tell......

Dallas is not dead or finished. Never will be and it paved the way for so many more shows.

Again - my question, why do we needs reboot? I disagree that it is keeping Dallas alive as Dallas will never die in the hearts of die hard fans.

And I resent any network that thinks they can drop Dallas and pick it up just to make money. Go make money off the back of something else.

I can understand where you're coming from, it breaks my heart how the show was squandered under Cynthia Cidre.

The damage has been done, no one will touch Dallas with a barge pole because of the performance of her TNT Dallas series.

I will always love the Lorimar original but as I said earlier I'm being realistic. The show is finished. I'd love another continuation series but that isn't going to happen now. The cast are too old. The only future for the show is a complete reboot. As much as I love the original Lorimar Dallas I'm afraid I'm resigned to the fact that the show is over. :(

I'm against a reboot with new actors playing the original roles --- it almost never works, as with nuDYNASTY (which has bombed in the ratings for four years, surviving only because of a Netflix arrangement).

And the original DALLAS players were already backseated in TNT's nuDALLAS; hence, its failure.

B ring back the original cast, with Ewings we know proliferating on Southfork, Sue Ellen in the attic, Bobby in the livingroom talking to JR's nefarious portrait, Josh Henderson waxing bitter, Ray, Lucy, Valene and Gary upstairs snoring, Cliff's post-mortem masterpiece to bring the Ewings down fully in action...

And Anne dead by suicide.

I just can’t see a reboot working. It wouldn’t be aimed towards the original Dallas fans and the audience they would be aiming it towards is too young to know what Dallas even is. I don’t think it would work at all.

But if they did a continuation those young viewers would have even less interest, so the show would be aimed at an aging fanbase who are VERY picky about "Their" Dallas.

No TV exec are going to produce a series aimed at the same audience the show had 40 years ago - that is never going to happen in this day and age, not least because of the TNT disaster

I’m not for a continuation either to be honest. I think they should leave it alone permanently, whether it’s a reboot or continuation to me doesn’t really matter. I just don’t see either working.

It’s more important to me that Dallas is respected for what it was
No one here Sarah (including me) is disrespecting Lorimar Dallas - despite its own imperfections. I can also see @Via The Void argument a reboot is a viable option. In capable hands and with accomplished actors anything is possible. However it would take a brave Producer to stand up to Warner Bros hierarchy and say, "Butt out. I know what I'm doing."

A reboot would need to stand on its own feet. The characters names might remain the same but a tweaking of their personalities and stories is required to set itself apart from Lorimar Dallas. It also needs to reflect the character traits of the city and Texas in general, none of this woke influence from Hollywood.

If a rebooted Dallas was given an opportunity to be offered as an adult contemporary drama then I'm willing to watch. It's just a mater of resetting the clock and enjoying the ride.

There should be an another option:

O Yes, keep the original characters in the background as long as they are in prison and completely frustrated with every single deal the youngsters pull off in running the company (hopefully good, fair and honest with giving much of the profits to charity).
I actually feel this to some extent, that the best way to do a continuation is to do the opposite.

John Ross lives Pamela and cares for her no matter what, through her mental illness he’s there for her, a stoic husband, a good man who yes does what ever it takes to promote the family but unlike his father is devoted to his wife sbd his wife to him.

Yes the company is there and has grown and so us the ranch but add a foundation and the giving away if money, even more political involvement.
They should be careful not to try and replicate but do something new that’s tied to the old story - not repeat and try to make a worse version of JR we love to hate but a guy we hate to love - things like that.

If I were to reboot the show I would set it back a little compared to the original. JR & Bobby would be younger and Gary would still be at the ranch. It would be a new starting point and give the character of Jock a more solid influence on the show. They only need to be 10 years younger though, not kids. I'd love to see JR learning the ropes, Bobby being a playboy and Gary's relationship with everyone fracture.

It would also set the show apart from the original, creating new relationships/plots/story lines.

Yeah that would definitely be a good way to reboot Dallas rather than going down the route of a remake of Diggers Daughter. :)

I didn’t say any of you were disrespecting Dallas?

But I am against a reboot. I just don’t feel it’s necessary at all.

For the sake of forum fan-fic, a continuation may be a nice fantasy but it's never going to happen. Larry and Ken are dead IRL, Pam and Christopher are dead on screen. There's not enough "star power" -- in terms of either actors or characters -- to build a continuation around. The TNT show didn't even set itself up, let alone a further continuation.

A reboot is inevitable. Studios endlessly rob the graves of their IPs and DALLAS is too famous to not be pilfered eventually.

I must agree with this last statement. Sad but true. At some point it will be a reboot and NOT a continuation. BUT I hope they make it enough different that I can enjoy it and keep it from being a farce so people laugh at it.
