Long Lashes

The winds deposited me here, and I know that I am blessed, fortunate and I've benefited by being deposited here.

Freezing temperatures and snow events are rare thankfully. My geographical location is in land mercifully with topographical features that disperses, to a degree, weather of note. While enjoying warmer temperatures.
And the wind blew me far up north  .. no palm trees where I live @Biggie.

Anyway, 2023 has arrived in North Hampshire and I hope that you have a good and prosperous year to come.
Thank you and you too. Lets hope 2023 is kind to all of us. :D

I wish the same for you and your family in 2023. Nothing but good health and happiness!!
Thank you DFF :) ...

I'd just got used to calling you CFF and now you're back to your old name

I hope your winter hasn’t been too bad with the snow so far?
So far so good. At the moment its all rain and grey days which I can cope with. Although, if we get snow its usually in February, so it was unusual for us to have the snow last November.

As you saw, our country had a huge storm right before Christmas. All of my relatives are fine and accounted for and I appreciate you asking my friend! Of course, this is the time of year CFF gets a lot of hate because of his weather down in Florida but they know I’m with them in spirit watching on the weather channel and worrying about them the entire time.
I'm so glad all your family are safe, the freezing snow storms looked horrendous. You're certainly better living where you do my friend at this time of the year.

Are the snow storms over, do you know?

Thank you! I have to say I’ve been lucky with dogs over the years. I’ve been chased a few times but the only scary incident was last year with a Dalmatian that apparently thought I was his lunch but the owner pulled him off of me before any damage was done. She felt terrible but I actually felt bad for the dog when they yelled at him. No harm done though. On to the next stop LOL!!
Some dogs can be scary. I guess you must be an expert now at evaluating which ones are friendly and which ones are not.

Yes, they are cute to be honest. I’m not sure if they travel in gangs though. And they look harmless to me but I’m not sure if they really are. I guess I should look them up as well. I go to one farmhouse that has one lurking but I always see him, or her, wagging it’s tail. I’m guessing that’s a good sign. But I notice that they keep him fenced in and I don’t really go near him just in case. I go to another house where one is running around loose sometimes so I guess I should learn more about them before I go back there again. Let’s face it Lashes, googling them while you’re trying to run away is probably not the best time.
Lol! .. no, you can't really google when you're in the middle of running away :lmao: ... you are wise though, to keep your distance.

I can’t describe how it feels to lose all that weight. Forget how I look, I feel like a new person and that was what I hadn’t counted on. I haven’t had this much energy in a long time and I’m afraid I’m becoming quite annoying to everyone around me but hey, that’s their problem.
Ooo you enjoy that feeling, you deserve it after all your determination. And I'm with you when you say its other peoples problem if they get annoyed .. or maybe they're just jealous of you DFF :cool1

I’m not sure which Christmas song is my favorite to be honest but if I had to pick one it would be Hark the Herald Angels Sing. I’ve always thought it was a beautiful song yet it also has the capacity to make CFF a little weepy. Still, when I hear it, I have to listen to it. It’s hard to explain.
That's a lovely Christmas Carol, very passionate . I too can get weepy with Christmas Carols or any music to be honest.

It was a very nice Christmas! I showed up Christmas Eve again this year and spent it with my family. We ate and talked and ate and laughed and ate some more. And of course the best part was my niece was there. It’s not Christmas without her. Then Christmas Day I was invited over her parents house so I got to terrorize her two days in a row. And there we were sitting on the floor and she’s showing me these things she bought at Disney World that she clips onto her shoes for decorative purposes and I’m trying to follow along like a good uncle but struggling to understand it all. But then it hit me; we were sitting on this same floor 13 years ago and playing with toys and dolls and stuffed animals and coloring together. That’s all changed now obviously but the feelings don’t go away, do they? So here was Uncle CFF feeling sad quite often this past year that his baby grew up into a mature young woman and didn’t have as much time for him but those feelings all went away Christmas Day. I realized I was an idiot for ever thinking those things.
This sounds a wonderful family Christmas! and how rewarding for you to see your precious niece grow up and no you're not an idiot., far from it. From what you say your niece thinks a lot of you, otherwise she wouldn't bother letting you into her world, especially at the age she is at now :)

Oh, if this kid ever joins Telly Talk someday Lashes! I’m a dead man. Hopefully by then they have a way to delete all your previous posts.
Lol! . does your niece know about Telly Talk?

if she doesn't, then don tell her Uncle- DFF

Well, work was quite unusual this Christmas. The storms that hit most of the country changed everything. Millions of packages never even made it due to the flight cancellations. December 23 I had 81 stops. I was supposed to have 150. Christmas Eve I was supposed to have 150 more. I had 8. Do you see a pattern here Lashes? We all went home 12:30 in the afternoon Christmas Eve. There was just nothing to deliver. It was an easy Christmas but of course this week it all caught up. KABOOM. This week was our Christmas. So many people were disappointed that their packages were so late but everyone was very understanding. People die in these storms and you try to remember that first and foremost. Still, I felt bad for a lot of the customers. I was delivering food all week that was ordered before the holiday and was spoiled. It was quite sad hearing them say they had to probably throw all that food out once they opened it.
I'm pleased you got away early on Christmas eve, but flipping-heck you've had to make up for it since :yikey:

Have you caught up and has it all calmed down? I hope the customers didn't blame you for the late deliveries.

What can I say to that? You don’t know how much I appreciate you both saying that. You helped this deathly shy person come a long way LOL
It wouldn't ever be the same without you on here :D

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas my friend and Happy New Year to you and to everyone else reading this!!
Thank you, yes we had a good Christmas too. I actually cooked the Christmas dinner which I haven't done for the last few years and I found myself really enjoying it.

Two new orchids ... well they started growing in 2021 so they are just teenagers now refusing to leave home.
Ooo I hope they've not turned into moody teenagers

I had a moment of hot weakness and bought a tiny red Poinsettia on 26 December knowing the purge was just around the corner. I was lucky to do so as when I went in on 2 January they were all gone. The purge is real.
That purge is strong.

I had a tiny Poinsettia last year (Tiny Talulla) and she lasted well into the summer which is good for me ... I have a feeling yours will live a lot longer .Lol!

Here is an image from my local grocery store of the remaining small poinsettias on 26 December.
poinsettia122622.jpg

I bought the one on the top right corner near the ball. She looked like the one no one would buy. Sadly now many of the remaining plants may be in a trash bin somewhere. :(
Oh this is very interesting to see, thank you Michelle . Yes, I think the one you bought might've been ignored if you hadn't come along. The other plants on this display stand all look very healthy, I hope some good people took them home. How is your new Poinsettia doing, has she settled in and whats her name? .. if you don't mind me asking

Streetie made it to 2023 and is doing good, better than I was thinking on early December. She now has a tiny friend in this new poinsettia. I'll have to take a photo of them together. I just hope Streetie can pull through the Winter. With some love and luck she will.
Its good to hear this positive news about Streetie , hopefully she will go from strength to strength again.

When I last saw her on 29 December she as just clinging to life. I'll see her Thursday but I fear for the worst. All in all 2022 wasn't a bad year plant wise for me. All my orchids made it thought the year. Only Pinkie Poinsettia died.
This is so sad :( I am sorry.

But you're right, you had a good year with all your other plants , I think its because you're the expert plant-whisperer :gotcha: ... you have learned so much though, as too have I (from you) , but I'm pretty sure you put more effort into your plants than I do with mine.

To you too! Happy New Year to you! Yes, hopefully Pippa The Pepper rewards me with a nice pepper summer.
Thank you my lovely friend  .

Do you know what type of peppers Pippa will grow?

I'd just got used to calling you CFF and now you're back to your old name
I kind of miss the CFF moniker. I wish we changed our names around more often but at the same time it’s a little difficult remembering who everyone is sometimes when we do that. There were a couple of times at Christmas I couldn’t figure out for the life of me who I was posting with LOL

So far so good. At the moment its all rain and grey days which I can cope with. Although, if we get snow its usually in February, so it was unusual for us to have the snow last November.
Interesting! And this seems to be a common theme with weather this winter so far. A lot of unusual circumstances. For example, we went all the way down to 40 degrees on Christmas Day, which NEVER happens here. But just a couple of days later it was right back to 80 again!

Are the snow storms over, do you know?
Unfortunately, no. My family up in New York will still get snow sometimes as late as April. Usually by that part of the season they’re no longer speaking to DFF. We usually make up sometime in May as their weather starts to get warmer.

Some dogs can be scary. I guess you must be an expert now at evaluating which ones are friendly and which ones are not.
I just trust my guts. Luckily I know most of them now. When I come across one I don’t know, then I let the sound of their bark dictate our relationship.

Lol! .. no, you can't really google when you're in the middle of running away :lmao: ... you are wise though, to keep your distance.
I knew that one would crack you up Lashes!

Ooo you enjoy that feeling, you deserve it after all your determination. And I'm with you when you say its other peoples problem if they get annoyed .. or maybe they're just jealous of you DFF :cool1
Thank you my friend! Usually I get asked what it is I’m doing or what’s my secret and my answer is I’m eating less and I’m eating healthier. That’s really all it is. It’s very tough though. A cheat day once a week is very important to throw in.

That's a lovely Christmas Carol, very passionate . I too can get weepy with Christmas Carols or any music to be honest.
Certain songs can get to me and make me start thinking about things. I notice that many Christmas carols can get to me, but I think that’s all normal for everyone. I’ve enjoyed these last couple of Christmases but I think I still need some time with the songs unfortunately. Hey, one year at a time I guess!

This sounds a wonderful family Christmas! and how rewarding for you to see your precious niece grow up and no you're not an idiot., far from it. From what you say your niece thinks a lot of you, otherwise she wouldn't bother letting you into her world, especially at the age she is at now :)
Well, I’ve never shared this before but the reason I’m so partial to the little brat is because she was born almost 9 months to the day after my mom died. I wasn’t even ready to be an uncle again. I wasn’t ready to do anything ever again cause I’m afraid DFF was in a very bad place at the time. But when she got here, well, I realized pretty quickly that it was the best thing that ever happened to me. She made me care again and believe me when I tell you that wasn’t easy for me to do anymore at that point. That kid saved my life. I like to think that maybe my mom had a hand in sending her down here cause she knew I’d need someone to cheer me up and lift my spirits. And then there are days that I think maybe my mom sent her here just to get even with me. The fact that it was a little girl though was the icing on the cake cause we didn’t have any of those at the time in this family. Everyone was hoping for another boy but I was hoping for her. I would say it worked out perfectly. So there I was, extremely depressed and wishing I can just give up and end it all, yet I’m holding this little baby wrapped in a pink blanket and it’s her first day here. A baby that for 9 months I was afraid I wouldn’t even love or want because of how I was feeling. But she changed everything. Made me realize I had to stick around. And every time I look at that kid, even now 13 years later, I think of that. I think of how she saved my life without even knowing it.

Of course I’ve never told my niece any of this yet but I do plan to someday. Perhaps she’s getting to that age when she will like hearing this or perhaps she will finally have me committed to an institution but either way I do plan to tell her. Maybe I’ll save it for her wedding day one day when I push her husband and father the heck out of the way so I can have that first dance with her.

does your niece know about Telly Talk?

if she doesn't, then don tell her Uncle- DFF
Oh no, I hope not!! She loves to look at other people’s phones and have a nosey but uncle DFF doesn’t fall for that. To her Dallas is a show for older people that didn’t have any other good shows to watch so I’m hoping she doesn’t ever get curious.

Have you caught up and has it all calmed down? I hope the customers didn't blame you for the late deliveries
We’ve caught up. It’s calmed down a little but it’s still very busy. It really doesn’t get slow at times like it used to. I guess that’s due to the fact that everything is online now. It’s the way of the world we live in.

Luckily I didn’t get blamed for anything being late. I would say everyone was pretty understanding. I only remember two houses where they weren’t too thrilled but I reminded them how much they love me the other 11 months out of the year and that they should be happy with that average.

It wouldn't ever be the same without you on here :D
We could say the same thing about you, couldn’t we?

Thank you, yes we had a good Christmas too. I actually cooked the Christmas dinner which I haven't done for the last few years and I found myself really enjoying it.

How odd, I wonder if its global warming? although to be honest I don't understand a lot about that.

Unfortunately, no. My family up in New York will still get snow sometimes as late as April. Usually by that part of the season they’re no longer speaking to DFF. We usually make up sometime in May as their weather starts to get warmer.
Ooo they must envy you being warm and sunny :cool1 .. I'm always surprised how bad the winters are in New York, especially the amount of snow they get.

Thank you my friend! Usually I get asked what it is I’m doing or what’s my secret and my answer is I’m eating less and I’m eating healthier. That’s really all it is. It’s very tough though.
You make it sound simple and I suppose it is if you're eating less and healthier, but I can imagine it must take a huge amount of will-power not to buy some tasty looking treats.

I admire how well you've done and I like the way you're doing it. There are soooo many different diets , but I always suspect the diet industry is in it more for themselves rather than the people who want to live healthier, they make a lot of money out of praying on peoples insecurities. ....... and that concludes my lecture of the day

A cheat day once a week is very important to throw in.
I like this! :gotcha:

Certain songs can get to me and make me start thinking about things. I notice that many Christmas carols can get to me, but I think that’s all normal for everyone.
I remember how my Mum used to get tearful watching us singing Carols in the school drama/play at Christmas and I used to think . ."whats she crying for?" and now I do exactly the same.

It fascinates me how music can get extreme reactions out of everyone. Its also a great to help recall many memories, certain songs remind me of people or places or situations I've been in. Anyway DFF, don't get me started on talking about music or I'll never shut up

I’ve enjoyed these last couple of Christmases but I think I still need some time with the songs unfortunately. Hey, one year at a time I guess!

 ... I can just picture you at the wedding pushing your way forward for the first dance ..Lol

Although I would imagine your niece will be overcome with emotion when you do eventually tell her, especially with your wonderful way with words just why she is such a star. Its so beautiful :)

It’s calmed down a little but it’s still very busy. It really doesn’t get slow at times like it used to. I guess that’s due to the fact that everything is online now. It’s the way of the world we live in.
I always said I'd never become one of those people who buys everything on-line .. well I'm ashamed to say I have become one of those people.

I don't quite buy everything online, I still buy all our groceries myself and a few other things , but its just so easy to click a button and hey presto!

Luckily I didn’t get blamed for anything being late. I would say everyone was pretty understanding. I only remember two houses where they weren’t too thrilled but I reminded them how much they love me the other 11 months out of the year and that they should be happy with that average.
So you talked them round :D

If I may use one of your words for a second and be daft here Lashes, what did you make for Christmas dinner?
You may be 'daft' anytime

I made turkey for Christmas dinner, along with a roast ham, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, pig-in-blankets, peas, cauliflower cheese, carrots (yuk!, I can't stand them but they add colour) home-made stuffing, apple sauce and gravy ... heck I hope I've not gone and made you hungry

My eldest step-son and his girlfriend made Christmas dinner for us the last couple of years ... they love taking over my kitchen and before that for the previous 2 years we actually ate out at local restaurants for Christmas dinner, so this last Christmas was the first time in years since I cooked.
I'll not describe the desserts we had or you'll be drooling :Clol:

You’ve got a good point there Lashes. Okay, perhaps that was a bad idea on my part LOL

I know what you mean  sometimes I'd be replying to someones post and thinking .. "whats your name again?"..Lol!
I had the same problem. There were a couple of people that I had no clue who they were. Once or twice I almost typed, “Who the heck is this?”

How odd, I wonder if its global warming? although to be honest I don't understand a lot about that.
I think that’s exactly what it is. Now we’re back in the 40s this weekend but by Tuesday we’re forecasted to go back up to the 80s again. Things have been very odd down here this winter. Odd and extreme for us.

Ooo they must envy you being warm and sunny :cool1 ..
They envy me in the winter but not in the summer when I’m either boiling where I stand or running from hurricanes. Then I envy them.

. I'm always surprised how bad the winters are in New York, especially the amount of snow they get.
It’s funny how we can change as we get older cause I used to love those brutal winters in Upstate New York. Then when we moved down here in 1994 I wasn’t sure I would like it at first. But then everyone was telling me that once I spent that first winter here I’d never want to leave. And sure enough, I was noticing that it was 80 degrees out in November and it’s not getting dark earlier and you can wear whatever you like outside and so I ended up staying. But I do miss New York a lot. No matter how long I live here, when I go back up there to visit it’s still home. Always will be.

You make it sound simple and I suppose it is if you're eating less and healthier, but I can imagine it must take a huge amount of will-power not to buy some tasty looking treats.
It’s very tough. Let’s face it, there’s too much temptation out there. I’m very careful during the week but on the weekend I’ll cheat a little. Tomorrow, Sunday for example, is family dinner day and they pretty much all know that DFF is coming to eat the legs off their kitchen table if he has to.

I admire how well you've done and I like the way you're doing it
Thank you for saying this Lashes! Believe me, I need the encouragement sometimes LOL

There are soooo many different diets , but I always suspect the diet industry is in it more for themselves rather than the people who want to live healthier, they make a lot of money out of praying on peoples insecurities. ....... and that concludes my lecture of the day
That’s a very good point! Hey, let’s face it, the dieting business is big money. The more weight we lose the more they make. I’ve always felt that dieting is different for everyone cause we’re all different inside. Our metabolisms, our size, our genetics, etc, so I think everyone has to do whichever diet works for them. People ask me all the time what I did and the answer is simple. I just started googling the daily recommendations for fat, saturated fats, sodium, sugar, cholesterol, calories and carbs. And I try to stick as close to those recommended numbers as I can. I read the nutrition labels on everything I buy, I cut out fast food, junk food, soda, etc. Me cutting out soda was like you and Michelle giving up buying plants but I did it. I had a glass of soda Christmas Eve for the first time in 4 months and it didn’t even taste right to me. I couldn’t figure out why at first but then I remembered that someone told me once I stopped drinking it that it won’t taste the same ever again and sure enough they were right. I didn’t even have a second glass.

What was my point with all this? I don’t know. Anyway, dieting is extremely hard but rewarding and my advice to people is use the diet that works for you, not necessarily the one that works for others. That was my point. I remember now.

I remember how my Mum used to get tearful watching us singing Carols in the school drama/play at Christmas and I used to think . ."whats she crying for?" and now I do exactly the same.
I used to think the same thing. “Why the heck is she crying?” Funny how we end up getting these things later on in life, realizing we’ve now become them when we thought we never, ever would, right?

It fascinates me how music can get extreme reactions out of everyone. Its also a great to help recall many memories, certain songs remind me of people or places or situations I've been in. Anyway DFF, don't get me started on talking about music or I'll never shut up
I know you take your music very seriously Lashes. I need my music daily, and my mood or what I’m about to do will usually dictate what I listen to. If I’m on my way to work, I need something fast and upbeat to prepare me for the impending war. On the way home I need celebratory music cause I know I’ve made it through another day. If I’m down or feel the need to reminisce I need slow music to help me through it. I know that one makes little sense but that’s how I am.

You've come a long way my friend and I don't say this lightly :)
Thank you Lashes! I really appreciate you saying that and I guess you’re right cause obviously now I don’t shut up either!

What an extra special gift your niece truly is and how very lucky she is to have an uncle who literally thinks the world of her.
She is my weakness (and my strength). Not sure what I would do or where I’d be without her.

Although I would imagine your niece will be overcome with emotion when you do eventually tell her, especially with your wonderful way with words just why she is such a star. Its so beautiful :)
Thank you for saying that my friend! I used to wonder how it must feel having your own kids if you can feel that for one that’s not even your own. But now I don’t look at it that way anymore. She’s my own to me.

I always said I'd never become one of those people who buys everything on-line .. well I'm ashamed to say I have become one of those people.
Oh, don’t be ashamed Lashes! If it wasn’t for online shopping I wouldn’t have a job. It’s convenient. I get apologies all the time from women because I have to go to their house every day but I think it’s funny.

I don't quite buy everything online, I still buy all our groceries myself and a few other things , but its just so easy to click a button and hey presto!
Yes, well, “hey presto” as you put it puts food on my table every night so I shouldn’t complain. I guess I still buy everything in the stores though. That’s just me. I love going to malls, supermarkets and department stores so much that I’ll probably never order much online.

This all sounds amazing! There isn’t one thing there I don’t like to be honest. And the fact that I can read all that without falling off the wagon and destroying my diet is absolutely amazing to me right now!!

I'll not describe the desserts we had or you'll be drooling :Clol:
No, you’d better not. I’m pressing my luck already I think. Hearing about the desserts will put me over the edge.

. ..and thank you for your kind words in THE POST OF THE YEAR THREAD ..you made me smile.:ty:
You’re very welcome! I meant what I said. Your tribute was beautiful and I really enjoyed reading it. I loved how you showed all the tributes from all around the world. May I ask one of my famous daft questions?

And this is probably an extremely daft question, here goes .. do you still get winter illnesses despite your warm weather? I mean things like flu, bad colds etc.

It’s funny how we can change as we get older cause I used to love those brutal winters in Upstate New York. Then when we moved down here in 1994 I wasn’t sure I would like it at first. But then everyone was telling me that once I spent that first winter here I’d never want to leave. So New York is where your heart is :) it must be reassuring to know you can still go back there if only for a catch up and a visit. I think you're brave living somewhere completely different to where you grew up, I still live in the same area...I'm not very adventurous.

I’m very careful during the week but on the weekend I’ll cheat a little. Tomorrow, Sunday for example, is family dinner day and they pretty much all know that DFF is coming to eat the legs off their kitchen table if he has to.

I’ve always felt that dieting is different for everyone cause we’re all different inside. Our metabolisms, our size, our genetics, etc, so I think everyone has to do whichever diet works for them.
Yes, you're completely right there, not everyone can follow the same diet, I guess everyone has to find what works best for them.

I do get a bit tired of seeing the slimming products suddenly appearing on the supermarket shelves straight after Christmas .. its like the supermarket is trying to shame me

Me cutting out soda was like you and Michelle giving up buying plants
Yes I guess it is

but I did it.
You did! :bravo1:

I had a glass of soda Christmas Eve for the first time in 4 months and it didn’t even taste right to me. I couldn’t figure out why at first but then I remembered that someone told me once I stopped drinking it that it won’t taste the same ever again and sure enough they were right. I didn’t even have a second glass.
Isn't it amazing how our tastes can change so much? A few years ago I completely gave up sugar for Lent and now I can't stand sugar in my tea or coffee and I never put it on my cereal anymore .. when I used to pile the stuff on. What do you drink in place of soda?

What was my point with all this? I don’t know.
:lmao:

Anyway, dieting is extremely hard but rewarding and my advice to people is use the diet that works for you, not necessarily the one that works for others. That was my point. I remember now.
Thats fab advice and you should know my friend because you're proof of how this works.

I used to think the same thing. “Why the heck is she crying?” Funny how we end up getting these things later on in life, realizing we’ve now become them when we thought we never, ever would, right?
Oh yes, I sometimes find myself saying something and then it suddenly hits me that I sound like my Mum or Dad.

I listen to music every day too, I never miss and it depends on my mood as to what I listen to and I love discovering new artists ... I don't just mean brand new artists , but singers and bands who might've been around for years and I've never noticed.

She is my weakness (and my strength). Not sure what I would do or where I’d be without her.
I love this :)

Oh, don’t be ashamed Lashes! If it wasn’t for online shopping I wouldn’t have a job. It’s convenient. I get apologies all the time from women because I have to go to their house every day but I think it’s funny.
Lol! .. so other women feel embarrassed sometimes too? I had another parcel delivered today from a very jolly delivery lady. My parcel wasn't anything exciting I'm afraid ... it was just 2 special brushes for cleaning behind radiators, how boring.

I still buy everything in the stores though. That’s just me. I love going to malls, supermarkets and department stores so much that I’ll probably never order much online.
Are all your stores still thriving? some of our high streets are looking dull these days, a lot of independent shops have sadly closed.

Do you have open-air markets locally? I love a good market.

Your tribute was beautiful and I really enjoyed reading it. I loved how you showed all the tributes from all around the world. I especially enjoyed the ones at Yankee Stadium and the Empire State Building. It’s always nice to see our countries being there for one another in our darkest times.
Thank you DFF.

I was unbelievably emotional and deeply touched when I saw the tributes from around the world, it meant so much that countries like yours were appreciative of our late Queen.

As sad as that time was, I think it brought a lot of the world together. And like you say ... it was special how our two countries showed solidarity.

You’re a pleasure to post with my friend!
So are you my friend :pals:

May I ask one of my famous daft questions?
DFF’s ready for daftness!

And this is probably an extremely daft question, here goes .. do you still get winter illnesses despite your warm weather? I mean things like flu, bad colds etc.
Oh yes, we certainly do. The warm weather doesn’t seem to prevent any of that stuff over here unfortunately.

So New York is where your heart is :) it must be reassuring to know you can still go back there if only for a catch up and a visit.
I wish I could get up there more often to be honest. These years seem to just fly by faster and faster as we get older. I have so much family still up there but it’s like we’re all living in two different worlds sometimes.

I think you're brave living somewhere completely different to where you grew up
Thank you Lashes! It is odd that I ended up in Florida. I didn’t think I’d ever leave New York. It all happened so suddenly one year. We lived here before when I was real little but then moved back to New York. I never thought I’d come back here again.

I still live in the same area...I'm not very adventurous.
Nothing wrong with that. Actually, I kind of envy that. I like when I hear someone lives in the same area their entire lives. We need more consistency in our lives if you ask me.

do get a bit tired of seeing the slimming products suddenly appearing on the supermarket shelves straight after Christmas .. its like the supermarket is trying to shame me
They know how to work on our guilt after the holidays, don’t they?

Isn't it amazing how our tastes can change so much?
Yes, it is! There are so many things I eat now that I wouldn’t even look at as a kid and then there are things I used to love that now I’m not too crazy about.

A few years ago I completely gave up sugar for Lent and now I can't stand sugar in my tea or coffee and I never put it on my cereal anymore .. when I used to pile the stuff on.
I can relate cause I was a sugar-holic for many years but now I watch my sugar very closely. And I notice that when I eat or drink something high in sugar it just doesn’t taste the same to me anymore.

What do you drink in place of soda?
This is going to sound very boring Lashes but all I drink now is water. I don’t drink anything else. I’ve had two glasses of soda in the last five months and nothing else but water. And now I notice that because of that I’m drinking more water than I ever did. I drink over a gallon of water a day and sometimes even more in this heat. It’s amazing how this helped with the diet. Water plays a big role for me. I get some interesting looks from my family and coworkers over my daily water intake LOL!!

Oh yes, I sometimes find myself saying something and then it suddenly hits me that I sound like my Mum or Dad.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that does this.

I listen to music every day too, I never miss and it depends on my mood as to what I listen to and I love discovering new artists ... I don't just mean brand new artists , but singers and bands who might've been around for years and I've never noticed.
One thing I’ve always noticed is I’m not the greatest at always knowing which artist or band authored certain songs. I will love a song forever sometimes and for some reason I just don’t bother to find out who sings it. Then once I finally google it and find out I’ll feel really stupid. Do you ever do this?

Lol! .. so other women feel embarrassed sometimes too?
Yes, it’s very common so you’re not alone my friend! I will go to the same houses every single day and bring my shopaholics their orders. Some are embarrassed but then there are the others. They are obsessive, they are compulsive, they are spending all their husbands’ hard earned money but I’m very grateful for all of them cause they keep me in business, as I’m sure you’re doing for your drivers.

My parcel wasn't anything exciting I'm afraid ... it was just 2 special brushes for cleaning behind radiators, how boring.
You’d be surprised what some people find exciting. I deliver everything from food to medication to live animals, phones, teeth, furniture, fabric, golf clubs, keychains, toys, etc. And to me, I gotta say it never gets boring. I love to know what I’m delivering as I can be a little nosey. Sometimes I’ll get a chuckle when they tell me what’s in the box but obviously it’s important to them or I wouldn’t be going there.

Are all your stores still thriving? some of our high streets are looking dull these days, a lot of independent shops have sadly closed.
The stores seem busy to me when I’m shopping but all I hear is how their sales are down. I’ve seen a lot of stores close down in the last couple of years in my local mall but then I’ll see a lot of new ones opening also.

Do you have open-air markets locally? I love a good market.
That’s one thing I don’t see much of here anymore. We used to have a lot of them but now they’re kind of scarce. Are they popular over there?

I was unbelievably emotional and deeply touched when I saw the tributes from around the world, it meant so much that countries like yours were appreciative of our late Queen.

As sad as that time was, I think it brought a lot of the world together. And like you say ... it was special how our two countries showed solidarity.
Her death was a hard one to accept for everyone because it just seemed like she was always there. Your country, and this world for that matter, were very difficult to imagine without her.

I hope you are having a nice week so far Lashes and that goes for everyone else as well!!

Oh yes, we certainly do. The warm weather doesn’t seem to prevent any of that stuff over here unfortunately.
This is interesting to know because I thought it would just be places where the weather was cold which would make seasonal flu and bad colds thrive ...mainly because we are stuck indoors together sharing germs.

These years seem to just fly by faster and faster as we get older.
Ooo doesn't it just. I can hardly believe how Christmas came and went in such a quick blur.

Thank you Lashes! It is odd that I ended up in Florida. I didn’t think I’d ever leave New York. It all happened so suddenly one year. We lived here before when I was real little but then moved back to New York. I never thought I’d come back here again.
Maybe it was mean't to be? :)

Nothing wrong with that. Actually, I kind of envy that. I like when I hear someone lives in the same area their entire lives. We need more consistency in our lives if you ask me.
I did once move away for a couple of years. I moved south down to a place called Plymouth with a boyfriend I had at that time, it was a good experience , but I did get homesick .. I'm such a wuss

I can relate cause I was a sugar-holic for many years but now I watch my sugar very closely. And I notice that when I eat or drink something high in sugar it just doesn’t taste the same to me anymore.
Yes I can understand that. I used to love, love chocolate, I still like it when I'm in the right mood, but sometimes it just doesn't taste right anymore . Although Mr L got me a very posh selection of chocolates at Christmas called .. Hotel Chocolat... and they were glorious. Anyway, just thought I'd share this with you..Lol!

I will love a song forever sometimes and for some reason I just don’t bother to find out who sings it. Then once I finally google it and find out I’ll feel really stupid. Do you ever do this?
I usually know who's singing the song or if I don't I'll go and find out because I'm nosy. Sometimes I can love a song and not realise its a cover-version , oh and quite often I sing the wrong lyrics and have been doing so for years without knowing

I will go to the same houses every single day and bring my shopaholics their orders. Some are embarrassed but then there are the others. Most local towns still have an open-air market. I've always enjoyed visiting them because they have a great atmosphere and quite often the stall holders have a good bit of banter with the customers, they are usually friendly places.

Her death was a hard one to accept for everyone because it just seemed like she was always there. Your country, and this world for that matter, were very difficult to imagine without her.
I sometimes still forget she is not with us anymore and I never thought of myself as a royalist, but all my life she has been there.

Charles is now busy planning his Coronation for May .. I think and we will get an extra days holiday which is the best news

This is interesting to know because I thought it would just be places where the weather was cold which would make seasonal flu and bad colds thrive ...mainly because we are stuck indoors together sharing germs.
I think it has to do with the moisture and humidity down here, and also that the state is highly congested. I think I heard that $18.000 people move down here a month or something like that. It doesn’t sound like a lot but it adds up. Plus down here mold is very common due to the dampness, which also brings a lot of illnesses.

I can hardly believe how Christmas came and went in such a quick blur.
It flew by, didn’t it? And here we are almost in February already. It seems like the older we get the faster it goes by. I’d like it to slow down a little to be honest.

Maybe it was mean't to be? :)
I’ve often wondered about this. Maybe it was meant to be that I ended up here, but I still can’t tell why LOL!! That’s the part I’m trying to figure out.

I did once move away for a couple of years. I moved south down to a place called Plymouth with a boyfriend I had at that time, it was a good experience , but I did get homesick .. I'm such a wuss
This reminded me of the first time I moved away from home. It was off to college but I didn’t want to go. Looking back on it I wasn’t ready. I should’ve stayed home and gone to a community college. I got to my dorm 70 miles away and boy did I miss the house in that avatar! So, well, you weren’t the only wuss Lashes.

Yes I can understand that. I used to love, love chocolate,
The biggest weakness I have on this earth. If I pass it in the store I start salivating uncontrollably. At the registers I can’t look behind me cause I’ll start shaking and my eyes get huge. It’s bad Lashes!

I still like it when I'm in the right mood
Any mood Lashes, any mood. I prefer chocolate to some family members, coworkers and friends.

but sometimes it just doesn't taste right anymore .
I’ll let you know when this happens to me

. Although Mr L got me a very posh selection of chocolates at Christmas called .. Hotel Chocolat... and they were glorious. Anyway, just thought I'd share this with you..Lol!
I had to google Hotel Chocolat and now I’m so glad I did!! Unfortunately they seem to have ceased delivering here in the US so DFF is out of luck. But I have to say that may have been the best google search of my life. That stuff looks awesome!

.. and todays daft question from me is, do you drink tap water or bottled? I need to know these things..Lol!
I drink a lot of both your daftness. I love bottles more but I also fill up two jugs with filtered tap and ice every day to take on the road with me. This gets laughs sometimes from my coworkers as they all use one water bottle. I fill two cause my route is all residential and I really have nowhere to refill my water jugs. Plus I know I’ll drink both of them so why not?

I usually know who's singing the song or if I don't I'll go and find out because I'm nosy. Sometimes I can love a song and not realise its a cover-version , oh and quite often I sing the wrong lyrics and have been doing so for years without knowing
This made me laugh cause I will quite often get the lyrics wrong as well. I can be so off with that. Many, many times I’ve googled the lyrics to a song and realized that I’m singing the wrong words for years.

Yesterday I got two parcels from two different drivers

.... but in my defence I probably won't get any more for a couple of months or so.
I’ve got houses on my route that get up to 6 different drivers coming to their house every day. I will literally walk up to doors and have nowhere to put my stuff cause the walkway is entirely littered with packages. So you’re not that naughty overall Lashes LOL!!

How fascinating , teeth? :lmao: oh and animals, wow I never thought you'd deliver things like these.
Yes, I’ve walked into dentists offices with peoples teeth that they have ordered. Fascinating, isn’t it? And I used to have a street corner that had three different pet stores. I would bring them tropical fish, reptiles, and all kinds of stuff. We even deliver horses. I’ve never done that though. They’re too big for our vans so they have to go in a special truck.

Most local towns still have an open-air market. I've always enjoyed visiting them because they have a great atmosphere and quite often the stall holders have a good bit of banter with the customers, they are usually friendly places
Interesting! I really like these kinds of things. We had a nice one here for years but it was closed down eventually. They had all kinds of stuff from food to souvenirs and all different vendors with various things.

I sometimes still forget she is not with us anymore and I never thought of myself as a royalist, but all my life she has been there.
And I’d like to think she’ll always be there in spirit thanks to all those nice tributes, including yours!

Charles is now busy planning his Coronation for May .. I think and we will get an extra days holiday which is the best news
Nothing wrong with an extra day off. He can have his coronation here if he likes if it gets me another day off.

Have a great week my friend!

Oh its a horrible feeling to be home-sick isn't it.

I think you hit the nail on the head by saying .. " I wasn’t ready. " .. that was the same for me too when I moved over 200 miles away, I gave it a good go, but couldn't wait to get back home. At least it taught me a lot about independence and once I got back I soon bought my first little house.

Yes, I’ve walked into dentists offices with peoples teeth that they have ordered. Fascinating, isn’t it? And I used to have a street corner that had three different pet stores. Oh I see, thanks for explaining.
No problem my friend! I just hope I explained it right cause sometimes I re-read what I type and I’m not even sure what it is I said Lashes.

. I must say I could never live where you do because that humidity would turn my hair into a bushy mess
Now this made me laugh! Well, luckily DFF doesn’t have the hair issue to worry about anymore, but the humidity is a huge factor down here. I’m a big sweater and I will sweat pretty much all day in this climate. Like everything else you get used to it but it can be very humid and sticky down here.

It'll soon be Christmas again before we know it :D
Oh, please don’t remind me! My ankles are still recovering from the last one.

When I start getting older I'll let you know :p
LOL!!! It must be nice to be the only person not aging on this planet.

It will soon be Valentine's day, does this have an impact on your deliveries?
Yes, we will get busy for Valentine’s Day. We will be delivering lots of flowers, gift baskets, chocolate and cupcakes. Phones are also a big seller for Valentine’s.

Oh its a horrible feeling to be home-sick isn't it
I think I still am sometimes but I don’t tell anyone

I think you hit the nail on the head by saying .. " I wasn’t ready. "
My problem was I just couldn’t interact when I got to college. I totally withdrew and sat in my dorm. I got depressed so much and fell so far behind in my studies that they had no choice but to send me home eventually.

that was the same for me too when I moved over 200 miles away, I gave it a good go, but couldn't wait to get back home. At least it taught me a lot about independence and once I got back I soon bought my first little house.
And once I got home I wanted to leave again cause despite my struggles, getting a taste of that independence for the first time was a nice feeling. I didn’t realize that going back to live at home again wouldn’t be the same once you’re gone. It’s quite confusing, isn’t it?

it is a shame they don't deliver out to you, I didn't realise this.... although they'd better not EVEN THINK of ceasing delivering to me :bang:
I think you should be okay with that cause it’s a company based in the UK, isn’t it? Looks like they used to deliver here but stopped for some reason. Maybe there just wasn’t enough demand here, although I would’ve kept their US operations in business singlehandedly!

I drink tap water too, but unlike you I think I prefer it over bottled water. Good for you taking two jugs of water and ice with you, I can't think of anything worse than being thirsty and not being able to drink
I don’t think I’ve ever drank as much water as I do now. I’m drinking over a gallon a day when I’m working. It’s amazing how cutting out the soda and tea and all the other stuff makes you drink more water.

The funny thing is, if ever I hear Mr L or anyone singing out loud and using the wrong lyrics it inexplicably irritates me ... which makes no sense at all because I do it all the time:loon:
Too funny! I’m glad I’m not alone on this. I have a cousin that I used to drive up a wall with this when we were younger. She’d get so frustrated with me not knowing the words and just guessing them. I’d try to cover and make believe I knew what I was saying but she was on to me. She knew that I had no clue.

do you think on-line shopping can get addictive for some?
Oh, I sure do! I deliver to many addicts in my opinion. I just laugh though cause it’s all in good fun. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to a house and an argument will break out because I’m back again. “What the heck did she order now?” But I think that’s hilarious! It’s my entertainment for the day. I get to play the role of troublemaker while I’m working.

Have you ever felt nervous when asked to collect something from the Pet Shop? .. oh wait, you haven't had to deliver snakes have you? :yikey:
I’ve often wondered what’s in those boxes when I pick up from a pet shop. Maybe I’d rather not know. I have delivered snakes before. I once went to a house with a very large, heavy box from India and they were like, “Oh good! My snakes are here!” Puts your day in perspective Lashes, I gotta tell ya. I also had a house once where they would send out a snake in a box all the time. Supposedly he was drugged and posed no threat but I would take that box and put it all the way in the back of the truck on a shelf and try not to think about it. I never understood the reason for this shipment almost every night and I never asked. Didn’t want to know to be honest.

I'm sorry you've been on your own all this week, but I've had a bad cold and it made me feel worn out and dizzy
That’s okay my friend! I do hope you are feeling better now and were able to get some rest.

my comments on here would've made less sense than usual.
How’s that even possible?

(Just kidding, just kidding)

Do you have trouble with mosquitoes there?

When we go abroad to a hotter country the mossies take a liking to me and I usually end up getting bitten, meanwhile Mr L has no problems ... he likes me to sit or walk next to him so the mossies will come after me and not him

Valentines day is big business, the shops here are full of heart-shaped stuff and greeting cards. I didn't realise you delivered flowers .. that must be fab to get a happy reaction when the recipient opens the door to some flowers :)

My problem was I just couldn’t interact when I got to college. I totally withdrew and sat in my dorm. I got depressed so much and fell so far behind in my studies that they had no choice but to send me home eventually.
Oh this is a shame, I hate to think of you being so unhappy. I guess college isn't for everyone and to be fair you were a long way from home, it must've felt strange and isolating.

And once I got home I wanted to leave again cause despite my struggles, getting a taste of that independence for the first time was a nice feeling. I didn’t realize that going back to live at home again wouldn’t be the same once you’re gone. It’s quite confusing, isn’t it?
Oh yes its all very confusing, I was the same. I couldn't wait to get home after living away and then I too couldn't wait to get somewhere of my own. Growing up is always confusing.

It’s amazing how cutting out the soda and tea and all the other stuff makes you drink more water.
You're doing so well. I never drink soda anyway, strangely I dislike fizzy stuff, but I wouldn't be able to cut out tea and coffee like you have. I don't know how you manage to wake up in the morning without a cup of coffee? but then I am a caffeine addict which is nothing to be proud of.

Lol! .. it sounds like you have your own soap-opera going on there

Flipping heck :yikey: you're braver than me.

In my old job I used to visit a family who had a snake in a tank in the living room and I was always on edge, The owner thought I liked the snake because I used to have a look at it in the tank immediately I arrived .. but it was only to make sure it hadn't escaped or anything before I sat down. Even though it creeped me out I did feel some pity for it having to live curled up in a restrictive tank, that seemed cruel.

That’s okay my friend! I do hope you are feeling better now and were able to get some rest.
I'm so much better thank you and I hope you are keeping well my friend :)

I always get you DFF :gotcha: and you do well to put up with my wittering's.
Nah, your witterings pale in comparison to my endless non-sensical posts of rubbish boredom my friend.

Actually I don’t know why I said that but it sounded so good when I read it back!

Do you have trouble with mosquitoes there?
Oh yes! They can be quite annoying down here. We are on a peninsula and pretty much surrounded by water so the insects are a big factor in these parts.

When we go abroad to a hotter country the mossies take a liking to me and I usually end up getting bitten, meanwhile Mr L has no problems ... he likes me to sit or walk next to him so the mossies will come after me and not him
Now this made me crack up! It’s kind of the same thing here I notice. Some people never get bothered and others get bitten constantly. For some reason they leave me alone though. Maybe I’m just too busy running from dogs, snakes and alligators to get bitten by the insects.

my Aliens ensure I never get any older.
I wish they could ensure this for all of us Lashes

Valentines day is big business, the shops here are full of heart-shaped stuff and greeting cards.
Yes, not to mention all the chocolate!!! This is the holiday DFF has to avoid most stores. I’m sure I’ll crack and buy a box of candy for myself at some point but I’ll just make it a small one.

. I didn't realise you delivered flowers .. that must be fab to get a happy reaction when the recipient opens the door to some flowers :)
It definitely can brighten someone’s day. I do love delivering things that make people happy. As I always tell them, I hate delivering bad news.

Oh this is a shame, I hate to think of you being so unhappy. I guess college isn't for everyone and to be fair you were a long way from home, it must've felt strange and isolating.
I think the biggest problem for me at the time was the baseball dream was dying right in front of me and I knew it. And because of that I couldn’t really be happy doing anything else. It took me a lot of years to realize that it just wasn’t meant to be and I had to accept it. I just wasn’t good enough. I can say that now, but back then I couldn’t face it. So I went off to college feeling very depressed and I withdrew from everyone. I do get a chuckle though when I go to the batting cages and pick up a bat and start hitting now. I get a lot of disbelief and head shakes when I start knocking that ball all over the field. I play it cool of course and just shrug it off and continue putting on a nice show for the crowd while everyone else wonders why I didn’t play professionally. My nephew and his dad specifically will demand an explanation but I just tell them the truth. I was good but not good enough. It gets harder as you go and the higher you go you find players that are much better than you are. It’s sad but it’s true. The odds of making it are very long.

I think that one qualifies as wittering Lashes! See, I’m way worse than you are with my endless chatter.

Oh yes its all very confusing, I was the same. I couldn't wait to get home after living away and then I too couldn't wait to get somewhere of my own. Growing up is always confusing.
And I think once we are grown up it gets even more confusing LOL!!

I’m a caffeine addict myself, yet with me it was always soda. For some reason I’ve just never liked coffee. I think I’ve had about two cups my entire life and didn’t like it both times. Even in the morning now I drink water. Afternoon, water. All day at work, water. Evening, water. I guess I’m lucky this state is surrounded by this stuff on three sides cause I don’t know what I’d do all day!

it sounds like you have your own soap-opera going on there
Yes, my job is always its own soap opera. I like that analogy actually! This week alone has been a made for TV miniseries.

You have my upmost respect Lashes cause there’s no way I’d ever go in that house. Delivering them in a box is one thing, but I couldn’t set foot in a house with one in it. I’d be staring at that thing all day waiting to see if it got loose. And if it did then I would probably die.

I'm so much better thank you and I hope you are keeping well my friend :)
Glad to hear you’re feeling better my friend!
I’m doing fine as well.

Have a great weekend and the same goes for everyone else!!

. We are on a peninsula and pretty much surrounded by water so the insects are a big factor in these parts.
Do you get a lot of spiders ... big poisonous ones?

I don't mind spiders, but if they're capable of doing me harm then I change my mind.

That must've been tough to have your dreams wiped out like that, I imagine you might have felt lost when you realised it wasn't going to be. Its so sad you had to go through feeling depressed and I know its hard to face other people if we feel like that, especially new people like you where doing when starting college.

I do get a chuckle though when I go to the batting cages and pick up a bat and start hitting now. I get a lot of disbelief and head shakes when I start knocking that ball all over the field. :D ... you've still got that ole' magic DFF, keep at it!

It gets harder as you go and the higher you go you find players that are much better than you are. It’s sad but it’s true. The odds of making it are very long.
That's so interesting, thank you for explaining because I'd never even thought of it in that way. What I mean is ... when someone like you realises they have a natural gift for something and are capable of being a professional and then coming up against other like minded and gifted people.

I think in these situations where so few brilliant players have the chance make it to the very top .. luck can also play a big part

I’d be staring at that thing all day waiting to see if it got loose.
That's exactly what I did , I always sat in the chair opposite the snake-tank so I had a good view, I couldn't have coped if it escaped and slowly slithered up to me from behind :yikey:

And if it did then I would probably die.
If the snake had made an appearance my screams would be heard from here all the way to you in the US

Your posts are NEVER rubbish boredom .. ever!
Thank you Lashes! I appreciate you saying that.

Do you get a lot of spiders ... big poisonous ones?
We get a lot of spiders. I’ve seen some really big ones and yes, they can be poisonous but for some reason they don’t scare me that much. Maybe I’d feel differently if one bit me though.

That must've been tough to have your dreams wiped out like that, I imagine you might have felt lost when you realised it wasn't going to be. Its so sad you had to go through feeling depressed and I know its hard to face other people if we feel like that, especially new people like you where doing when starting college.
It was tough because it was really all I wanted to do. I didn’t care about much else growing up. People would ask me what I would want to do when I grow up and my answer was play baseball. I never thought of it NOT happening. So when it didn’t happen I was crushed, and I got angry. And bitter. And hostile. I became quite the jerk. But I kept playing on my field with my friends and I’d even play out there alone by myself, which got some weird looks from the neighbors and family but I didn’t care. That field was my safe haven. If I couldn’t play professionally I was still gonna keep playing and I did. I remember mom quite often watching me from the window those times I was out there alone. I’m really not sure if she knew how much I was hurting cause I didn’t talk about it much. It was over and nothing could be done. But I think she knew something was wrong cause I was withdrawing from everyone and everything. I started caring less about my friends, my schoolwork and pretty much everything else. Looking back on it now? I needed to get over it and be thankful for everything else I had but I guess at the time I just wasn’t ready to let go of that dream.

Luck does play a big part in it. Lightning has to strike for it to happen, and that’s just for ONE person to make it. I had a lot of good people helping me. My coaches, my family, friends, etc. and I thought my odds were good. But the higher you go the better the talent you’re playing against. It didn’t take me long to see that I was in trouble. I saw players that were so much better than me as I went, and it made me very quiet. What I didn’t realize back then was we all had the same dream. I wasn’t the only one, and it was stupid of me to think I was. So I panicked, and I made every excuse in the book why I didn’t make it. I blamed it on so many things, but ultimately I just wasn’t good enough. I can say that now.

A few years later I attempted a comeback, but sadly my heart wasn’t in it anymore. Too much time had passed and it just didn’t feel the same. I still loved the game, but for some reason I wasn’t loving playing it anymore. I started missing practices, something I had never done. I was even having arguments with my teammates. My high school coach put me out of my misery and cut me from the team. Of course I wouldn’t accept that and I got mad at him. I told him off and told him that he wasn’t giving me a fair opportunity. I barely spoke to him for a couple of years but looking back on it he was right to take me off the team. He told me the truth and that couldn’t have been easy for him to do knowing how I felt. He gave me a huge opportunity considering I hadn’t even played in a few years at that point.

After that baseball didn’t mean as much for a long time. I’d still watch it but now it would make me so sad. I’d have to bite my lip or adjust my eyes if I was watching with others cause I’d notice myself getting teary eyed. I still loved it, and it hurt. But luckily I had a pest, a troublemaker, a thorn in my side that wouldn’t let me stop caring about what I loved. She made me watch games with her and then proceed to ask me the dumbest questions I’ve ever heard. She’d call me in the middle of the day when I’m carrying 5 boxes up a driveway and ask me if there was a game that night and if I was coming over to watch it. Til this day I don’t know if she really loved the game herself or just played me by faking her interest to get me back watching again but whatever it was, it worked. I guess that’s what moms do. So now when I watch, the sadness of not playing professionally is gone. I’m at peace with that part. I enjoy it more now than I ever did to be honest. I probably put so much pressure on myself when I was younger that I never let myself enjoy it and just be a fan. Now I can sit back and be a fan again.

I'm sure I can easily match that with ease :loony:
There’s no way you can match the witterings I just typed Lashes LOL!!

I now have water envy  ... how I wish I had the will power to start the day with water like you do
Water envy? You might’ve coined a phrase there my friend. I have to say you are the first person that has envied my “strictly water only to drink” philosophy.

Right , I'm off to the kitchen to get myself a glass of ...water. Your healthy living is rubbing off on me DFF :cool1

Its easy to look back and think .. "I needed to get over it and be thankful for everything else" .. I do this a lot too. But when you're in that moment and living and feeling the pain and disappointment it can be impossible to do and of course you'd had that dream for most of your life.

A few years later I attempted a comeback, but sadly my heart wasn’t in it anymore. Too much time had passed and it just didn’t feel the same. I think glue is a great idea for this thread! Actually there are a few threads on this site I wish we could glue to page one now that I think about it. And maybe a few people over on the Dallas threads that we can glue to page 5 while we’re at it.

(Just kidding, just kidding)

Its funny isn't it how we both don't mind spiders.
I see so many all the time that I guess they just don’t bug (sorry, bad pun) me that much.

I've had friends freak out if a spider appears and I've had to remove them (the spider not the friend .. Lol!) from the room
LOL!!! I do know some people that will freak out with spiders too. I guess I can understand that because you definitely don’t want to get bitten by one and have to start running around in a red suit and mask the rest of your life Lashes.

I always catch them and put them outside and I can't help feeling a bit sorry for them if its raining.
That’s very nice of you! I won’t try to catch them typically but I’ll just leave them alone and hope they go away. Now lizards are a different thing. Those I chase down until I get them out of the house. I won’t kill them but I’ll send them back outside. I’m just not a reptile person.

Oh this is a shame, it must've been so tough for you to accept it wouldn't happen. I imagine with you loving and aiming for being a baseball player for so many years you must've felt completely lost, almost like grieving?
The hardest part was now what do I do with the rest of my life? I only knew how to do one thing so it felt like my life was over at the time but I know now that it wasn’t. It’s never over. It’s never as bad as we think. My journey just changed, that’s all. I grieved, mostly privately. And maybe that was a mistake cause holding in all that hurt and anger wasn’t good.

Its easy to look back and think .. "I needed to get over it and be thankful for everything else" .. I do this a lot too. But when you're in that moment and living and feeling the pain and disappointment it can be impossible to do and of course you'd had that dream for most of your life
Thank you for saying that Lashes! At the time I thought it was the end of the world. Little did I know all the good things that lay just ahead. And then I look at my nephew, who’s 19, in college and majoring in sports marketing. And there he is, interviewing American Football players on the field and sending me the videos to watch. So maybe my dream isn’t dead after all. Maybe it’s living on through him now.

Of course I want to go on record and say that I had no influence on his decision to go into sports Lashes. Well, at least I would never admit to that publicly.

That was another hard knock for you being dropped from the team.
In retrospect, the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I didn’t know it then of course. It humbled me, and it made me realize once and for all that it was over. I needed to hear it. I didn’t speak to that coach for a couple of years but then one day we’re doing these workshops at school. It was senior year and I couldn’t find a workshop I wanted to do and that’s when I noticed there was a baseball workshop for the day. Well, that was all DFF needed to hear. Funny how a one day workshop can make you forget your pain cause I signed up for it immediately. I hadn’t done anything baseball related in years. There were other kids in the class that still played and knew of my disappointments but I didn’t care about them. What I didn’t know was the person teaching the class was the same coach who cut me from the team two years earlier, the last time I ever played. So when he walked in and saw me I think it was a little awkward. But once we started interacting it was like time had stood still. It was good to patch things up and be cordial again cause I had said some pretty mean things to him the last time we talked and other mean things that I’m sure went back later. He had a team to run, and he couldn’t win with me on it. And that was my fault, not his. But that day in that workshop talking about baseball with him and so many people I used to play with went a long way in my healing process. Everyone was so nice to me and made me feel welcome, which was way more than I expected or even deserved.

It must've been an emotional time for you back then
That’s fair to say. Between lost dreams, Dallas ending in 1991 and Dynasty ending in 1990 it was a tough time LOL

This was lovely to read because I didn't know who that caring "pest" was until your final sentence. :)
Yes, well, everyone needs a caring pest in their lives I’ve always said. Mine got me through a lot of tough years. And the great thing about pests is even if you lose one, there’s always other pests lurking to take their place. I’ve been blessed with quite a few pests over the years thankfully.

I'm so pleased to read this, you went through so much turmoil for years and it would be incredibly sad if it made you fall out with Baseball forever, luckily in the end you didn't.
No, I guess I always knew I’d come back. We always return to what we truly love. It’s almost that time of year again and this is when DFF starts getting a little antsy. But when I go on that field now to play a little? I gotta be honest, I don’t know how I ever did that all day as a teenager. Then you couldn’t drag me off that field, and now I can’t wait to get the heck out of there and go rest.

If we go ahead and make this new Soap Opera about deliveries ... I think we need Kevin Costner or Tom Hanks playing you :D
That’s a tough one cause those are two of my favorite actors. I gotta lean towards Costner though. I’ve always said I would want him to play me in a movie. He’s made so many movies I love over the years. Not to mention he’s probably the only bigger baseball fan than me so we have that in common.

I'm the same. I can't rationalise my fear and dislike of snakes, they've never done me any harm.
I think my fear of them comes from the slithering. I hate things that slither!! Creeps me out.

I've held a snake to try and engage with it and that didn't work
You’ve held one? Really?? Oh, I couldn’t do that. EVER!!!

and if I see one on TV I cover my eyes.....literally.
I change the channel. I can’t even look at my phone if one shows up in my YouTube browser. I scroll down as far away as possible.

Have you ever watched that film/movie SNAKES ON A PLANE? just having to watch that film would be my worse nightmare.
I’ve never seen it. I just can’t. I’ve never seen ANACONDA either. Reptiles are my biggest fear. I can’t cope. I don’t discuss this with many people because I’m afraid someone will try and turn it into a practical joke or something.

. The snowdrops and crocuses are out in our garden and seeing the first signs of spring like this always lightens my mood.
That’s a good thing! Has your winter been bad this year overall?

It’s already getting hot here. We’ve been consistently in the 80s most of the winter. I think the next couple of days it’s going down to the low 50s but I’m sure it won’t last long enough.

Hope your week has been good too.
Thank you my friend!
My week was hectic as usual but I’m taking the weekend to recover.

I hope you are having a nice weekend as well!!
