Meryl Streep slams the term 'toxic masculinity', says women can be toxic too
The 'Big Little Lies' actress believes that the term needs to be re-evaluated and one needs to communicate its meaning clearly

Meryl Streep is all geared up to promote her upcoming show 'Big Little Lies' along with Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman among others. However, during a recent interview for the promotion of the HBO show, the actress was quick to bring attention to how she is not a big fan of the term "toxic masculinity".

The discussion on the topic arose when Streep sat down for a Q&A with the cast, hosted by Radhika Jones of Vanity Fair, as reported by Instyle.

During the interview, one of the audience members told Kidman that he enjoyed watching the show. Streep then chimed in stating that she was pleased to hear he had found a liking for the show even though he wasn't a woman. She then added that the term toxic masculinity is applicable to everyone because it is not just the men that it applies to but rather people in general.

Streep believes that the term needs to be re-evaluated and one needs to communicate its meaning clearly as by using the term "toxic masculinity" one is generalizing things.

"Sometimes, I think we're hurt. We hurt our boys by calling something toxic masculinity. I do. And I don't find [that] putting those two words together … because women can be pretty fucking toxic," Streep said.

"It's toxic people. We have our good angles and we have our bad ones. I think the labels are less helpful than what we're trying to get to, which is communication, direct, between human beings. We're all on the boat together. We've got to make it work."

Streep noted that many people sometimes get confused with regard to what the term entails.

Sometimes, people believe that it covers things such as violence and misogyny and in this sense, mix the meaning of what is termed as toxic masculinity.

"Toxic masculinity is a narrow and repressive description of manhood, designating manhood as defined by violence, sex, status, and aggression," explains The Good Men Project.

They further note, "It's the cultural ideal of manliness, where strength is everything while emotions are a weakness; where sex and brutality are yardsticks by which men are measured, while supposedly 'feminine' traits — which can range from emotional vulnerability to simply not being hypersexual — are the means by which your status as 'man' can be taken away."

Meanwhile, the ladies were quick to get the discussion back on their much awaited season 2 of 'Big Little Lies' which is set to release in June 2019.

Kidman noted that, initially, she hadn't planned that the show would have a season 2. However, looking at fan reaction, all of them decided that they should give the audience what they want and without second-guessing the decision, season 2 of 'Big Little Lies' was in motion.

However, one of the biggest surprise that the fans got was the entry of Streep as one of the characters in the upcoming season.

"We're so fortunate that she believed in us," Kidman said of Streep joining the cast. "She signed on without having read anything. That is a massive thing for a woman with that amount of power and also the fall she could take if we didn't deliver for her. It shows trust. It also shows how she's unbelievably daring and curious and bold. And I love her!"

An old TYT video, but the charge is now gaining traction:

One poster's response:

Seems like they support abortion because its her body and her choice, but as soon as she decides to keep the baby, the deal is off and it's no longer her body and her choice. Now she has to do what the hospital and doctor tell her to. It is misogynistic to expect a woman to put herself through any kind of misery and trauma, and if she refuses she is a "bad mother". Well, I want to know how many men would agree to have salad tongs shoved up their ass "for the benefit of the baby".

And wtf is wrong with Ana? I thought she was a feminist? How is it Ok for doctors to perform procedures on women without their consent? It may not be appropriate to call that "rape" but it certainly is medical assault and a grave violation. If I don't consent to forceps and a doctor forcibly inserts them into my vagina anyway, am I not allowed to feel violated and humiliated? Is that not assault? Or do pregnant women have to sacrifice all bodily autonomy simply because they are pregnant? God.

Talk about missing the point. I don't think women have a problem with doctors touching them or examining them or even performing life saving procedures, they are just asking for dignity, sensitivity and for their autonomy to be respected. I can't believe that these "liberals" think that women who choose to give birth in hospital have automatically consented to everything that the hospital may choose to do. BULLSHIT.

Giving Streep props -- albeit reluctantly:

It is funny how the most effective anti-feminist/MGTOW/Men'sRights spokespeople by far are the women.

Here's another sillyish one (it's mislabeled "When Women Find MGTOW" which is sort of misleading). The sections in the bar are kind of stupid and not very interesting, really. But it's funnier when he asks 'what women do better than men?' at ~4:30 (the girl who says women are "more compassionate" later cried when the interviewer suggested men tend to be physically stronger than women, presenting herself as a victim to passersby, but that occurs on another video) and at ~7:30 he asks 'what are men better at than women?' (which results in crickets, that feminine generosity somewhat lacking, it would seem-- but then these ladies would likely be chastised were they were to offer up any examples of male competence or value)…

Not that one should take this all that seriously, but it does reflect some kind of default setting in the culture nowadays.

A lot of it comes from here (the fat girl is a delight):

Damn! This is so wrong. If a boy is the victim of statutory rape he is considered to be incapable of providing consent. Consent includes accepting responsibility for ones actions including the possibility that sex may lead to conception. How is a 14 or 15 year old even going to provide for a child? Are his parents going to be responsible for footing the bill until he becomes a wage earner? Is he expected to forgo a college education and proceed immediately into the workforce after high school? This is the very definition of cognitive dissonance.

This is one instance when men are being penalized for being male. Shhh, don't let the incels know I said that.

While I'm a supporter of AOC's policies, there's an SJW-bent to her world view that I'm not a fan of. Like when she suggested that Nancy Pelosi was critical of her and "the squad" because they're women of color, even though the real reason is because Pelosi is a neoliberal and the squad are progressives.

Now she's weighed in on a "straight parade," tweeting "For men who are allegedly so 'proud' of being straight, they seem to show real incompetence at attracting women to their event. Seems more like a 'I-Struggle-With-Masculinity' parade to me. Hope they grow enough over the next year to support / join LGBTQ fam next #Pride!"

Aren't there better ways to stand up for gay people than to accuse men in a straight parade of being unable to attract women and struggling with their masculinity? Even if you think it's a ridiculous excuse for a bunch of anti-gay Trump supporters to get together (which it appears to be), I think there are better ways to speak out. Going after a man's masculinity and inability to attract women is a cheap shot because many decent men struggle with those issues as well. It's like when Trump attacks women he doesn't like by going after their looks.

I just think AOC should know better.

Especially since Milo is, last time I checked, set to be the straight pride parade's grand marshal --- so the event seems to have a tongue-in-cheek element to it, but humor is no longer permitted in The Land of Big Sister.

But that's how it is now: the legitimate progressive leftists are also almost always identitarian SJWs. Which ruins the whole thing.

Thought you'd like to see this short scene from the hit NBC/CBS police/detective series In The Heat of the Night, fourth-season episode "Perversions of Justice," OAD Tues. Oct. 2, 1990 on NBC (shades of MeToo and TimesUp, apparently):

Judy Garland's female assistant is claiming that the star grabbed her crotch during a limo ride. While many of the replies were sensible (like how the dead can't defend themselves), others took the opportunity to blame men. They claimed that, because Garland was allegedly abused by men, the unwanted advances she's accused of dishing out were because of men.

'Sex crazed Judy Garland grabbed my crotch during limo ride', says star's personal assistant
"Her hand began a trip from my knee, where she had placed it when the car lurched, to my crotch," Judy's personal assistant, Stevie Phillips, said.

Late actress Judy Garland was so sex-obsessed that she once reportedly grabbed the crotch of her female personal assistant in the back of a limousine. Stevie Phillips, the actress' personal assistant, recently opened up about the #MeToo moment she experienced with her former boss.

She said that she had come to resent her, which started with having to drive her to and fro from hotels and airports throughout the day, which were getting "too tedious to endure". It was during one of those trips that Judy allegedly sexually abused her, Stevie claimed in a 2015 memoir.

"Her hand began a trip from my knee, where she had placed it when the car lurched, to my crotch," she said. "Her move wasn't inadvertent. Judy did nothing inadvertently."

Stevie added, "The idea of being intimate with Judy revolted me. I wanted to reject her. And it wasn't just because she was a woman, although a relationship with another woman did not interest me. It was because I didn't like her."

Stevie recalled how afraid she was to block her boss' actions, lest she lost her job. However, she eventually gathered up the courage to remove the actress' hand from her private parts and place it back on her lap with a smile.

In other instances, Judy's sexual aggression came out through physical assaults. Her assistant recounted how she could only watch in astonishment as her boss attacked a woman with whose husband she was carrying out an affair in 1963 at the Savoy. "Both were bleeding, gowns torn. almost naked in the fifth-floor corridor," she said.

In another incident, Judy stood on her hotel balcony wearing just lingerie, singing her famed 'Wizard of Oz' number to a crowd of men. The men could not tell that the actress was crying as they hooted and hollered at her.

Judy was married five times in her life and accused at least two of her five spouses of beating her. She had three children, at least two abortions. At the age of 47, well into her fifth marriage and addicted to pills, she overdosed from barbiturates in London in 1969.

A new biopic on her life, titled 'Judy' and starring Renee Zellweger, will be in theatres on September 27.

Yes, the patriarchy so pits women against each other that they simply aren't responsible for their own behavior towards each other. Or towards their own children.
