Okay so it's time for one of my most favorite movie stars:

Annex%20-%20Taylor,%20Elizabeth_13.jpg

Elizabeth Taylor was an English-American actress who was born in London, England on 27th February, 1932 to American parents. Her father was an art dealer and her mother a retired actress. She also had an older brother. When Elizabeth was seven years old the family moved to Los Angeles, California, USA to escape the Second World War. Once they’d moved to Los Angeles Elizabeth’s mother started to pursue an acting career for her child and by the time Elizabeth was ten years old she landed a small part in the original Lassie movie. Then she was signed into a long term movie contract with MGM who catapulted her to stardom with the movie National Velvet (1944). Elizabeth kept working steadily all through her youth and by 1950 she’d successfully transformed from a child starlet to an adult movie star. Elizabeth’s career then reached new heights and in the late 1950’s she became the first female star to be given one million dollars for making a movie. The movie was Cleopatra (1963). On the set she fell in love with Richard Burton and the two of them then collaborated on several movies during their ten year marriage.

Elizabeth became a legend in her own lifetime and in 1999 the American Film Institute named her as the seventh greatest female screen legend. She won three Oscars, the first one for Butterfield 8 (1960), the second one for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) and the third one for her Humanitarian work, as Elizabeth was a passionate advocate for people who were suffering from HIV/AIDS. Elizabeth died from congestive heart failure at the age of 79 on March 23rd, 2011. Her career span 7 decades and she made around 60 movies. But which one of her movies is your favorite?

Well three movies is better than none. ;)

Before I was 28 and discovered "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" I had only seen one movie with Elizabeth and that was "Cleopatra" which I first saw in my teens. I think in some ways she was really more famous for being Elizabeth Taylor than any of the roles she played. Yet she was a wonderful actress too, so whoever hasn't seen her movies yet are in for a real treat if you decide to check out some of her other movies.

I love the Lassie dog too. So cute. :)
