A Supreme Court for all Americans should consist of justices that cite the Constitution when making their decision. Liberals and conservatives may interpret it differently, but I can respect both sides as long as they refer to the Constitution to support their position. For example, I don't want a justice like Scalia citing the views of Evangelical Christians as opposed to the Constitution when opposing same sex marriage.
As a left leaning person, I've been saying this since the primaries. I had discussions with Democrats who tried to convince me that Hillary was a better candidate than Bernie Sanders. Many cited her experience, despite Sanders being a successful politician for the past 35 years. I countered that much of Hillary's "experience" was at the expense of the poor, minorities, and gays. I also cited her ties to Wall Street and her support of the wars in Iraq, Libya, and Syria. However, the same Democrats that supported her then continue to do so. Even so, the leaked emails from the DNC and Podesta feels like a nice consolation prize.
Personally, I don't see Trump as the answer to Hillary. He's done a great job of dismantling the Republican establishment, and he's one of the few Republicans to not come out against Social Security and Medicare. However, I find him extremely crude and divisive. His policies towards Muslims would infringe on our religious freedom and killing the family members of terrorists would be a war crime. Not to mention the fact that he bragged about the housing market crash being good for business and said getting out of paying taxes made him smart. He's a burden on the people he claims to be fighting for, and acts indifferent to it.
Both candidates will always have their ardent supporters regardless, but I think the majority of people are voting for the candidate they believe is the lesser of two evils. However, that varies from person to person.
Thank you for reasonable and fair comments. One of the many things I've admired about you is your ability to debate and respect both sides of an issue with an open mind.
I absolutely can not press a button for either Hillary or Trump. For me, Hillary's history of questionable practices, openly lying and even lying about things she didn't need to lie about, Wall Street and Foreign Government connections done behind closed doors are all things I've watched over the years. I realize a person can change over time, but she is still involved in deceptive practices, still lying and the list goes on, and on. Trump's big mouth and hurtful comments toward certain segments of the population is so ugly. I am totally against infringing on anyone's religious freedom, Muslim, Jews, Catholic or whatever, and by the same token I don't want mine infringed on either. I do not agree with Trump on killing family members of terrorists, which is definitely a war crime. I do feel this election will have profound consequences on this country, and a big issue for me is immigration. Trump wants "proper vetting." Well, what does that mean? What's the standard to determine this since there does not appear to be any data on record showing radical history. Should these immigrants coming in and who are already here get a pathway to citizenship and then we have hundreds of thousands who have applied for citizenship and gone back to their mother country awaiting their turn to come back with legal status. That is certainly not equality by any standard. Hillary hasn't offered her ideas on this, but she has spoken endlessly about Trump's. You and I both agree the Constitution should be followed, not only by the Supreme Court, but it's also in the Constitution that the President of the United States has a responsibility to protect this country against enemies both foreign and domestic. So, I ask, "Mass Deportation", "Extreme Vetting", "Mass Immigration from Iraq, Syria and Libya". Another 9/11, Orlando Nightclub killing, San Bernardino, Paris Nightclub, Paris Holiday is not acceptable. I don't have an answer, but I know I am not comfortable with religious discrimination.
