Watching the eagles

I've had a a good look back through my images of Liberty from the last couple of years and I honestly can't see any difference. This was our Liberty last year ...

I'm no expert, but she looks exactly the same to me.

It's hard to say why others think Liberty isn't Liberty. I just read these conversations and it made me think about it.

If this is a Soap Opera its the finest one I've ever watched

We've had (suspected) new partners, new babies, unexpected accidents (falling out of the nest), a very sad death and a part-time cast of an Owl, squirrels, Starlings, Blue-Jays and a Wood-pecker popping in and out of the storylines.

Indeed it's everything one can think of over the past four years. LOL, the part-time cast is so nice indeed.

I won't list the daily murders :fp:

Every day some poor creature is dined on for us to see.

It's hard to say why others think Liberty isn't Liberty. I just read these conversations and it made me think about it.

Its interesting to hear what others are saying and they could be right about this? I really don't want them to be but they could.

I was just thinking though, if Liberty isn't the real Liberty then wouldn't the organisers of the web-cam know? I like to think they would inform us eagle-watchers if Liberty had been replaced. Anyway, I'll keep a closer eye on her from now on

Every day some poor creature is dined on for us to see.

They're not fussy are they, any fresh meat or fish will do. Great picture by the way I like how the eaglets now crouch down when feeding from a parent to try and make themselves appear as small as they used to be.





Whilst we're on the subject of the slaughtered wildlife (poor fish, chickens, squirrels, turtles etc )



I came across one that got away ...

Its difficult to see in all the commotion, but I think it was a duckling? It seems that after a struggle with the eaglets, it makes a jump for it over the right hand side of the nest :bravo1:

I hope it lived to tell the tale, can ducklings fly? I hope they can.

Excellent footage, and rather amusing I have to say. In the final seconds of the video the Eagles looks annoyed that their lunch escaped.

That's what I'm thinking as well. One would think the organizers who do those blogs would know. People tent to talk alot but sometimes the facts get lost.

One can't complain about a free meal when you are on a nest in a large tree.

Poor thing. I too hope it survived. The look on their faces when it escaped was funny. The one eaglets seems to pay not attention to it, just laying in the nest.

On Friday I couldn't get the Liberty/Freedom cam to work. I did watch Lipstick and Guy for a time.

Those feet again ....

From the four years we've been watching it's hit or miss. In 2019 the pair (Soap and Chat) did return to the nest often after they fledged. I believe they were last seen as late as August of that year. The others didn't return much after they left the nest.

As the hatchlings have grown their transformation in appearance is something that I needed to witness to believe.

If someone should me a picture of them newly hatched and them now I'm not sure if I would credit it as plausible. The photos are excellent thanks for posting.

How fantastic they look trying to fly . Although, this is the time when I become a bit nervous again. I'm on edge because the eaglets start to literally get near to the edge of the nests as they try out those wings, hopefully none of them will lose their balance and fall this year ray:



Another new landmark today was finally one of Lipstick and Guys trio managed to get himself onto the 'look-out' branch..

Clever eaglet! :bravo1: ... pretty soon I think the competition to sit on that popular branch will be fierce between these three.





I thought this one was an interesting view from Lipstick and Guys nest....

Both nests have been having hot weather today and one of the eaglets found some much needed shade ...

I do have a soft spot for Celeste and Lunar, since day one they've seemed so chilled and easy-going ...

they're just soooo cute :love5:

Both sets of eaglets are slowly gaining more independence. For this past week the parents have left them alone in the nest at night, although they'll be keeping watch in a nearby tree.



Last night both sets of eaglets decided it was time to sleep standing up like the adults do ...

Here are Lipstick and Guys trio ..

^^two of them are stood up as they sleep,.. #3 couldn't be bothered and laid down instead




Celeste and Lunar did exactly the same thing ...

There must have been something in the air last night for them all to sleep in this way.





I'll just share this from yesterday afternoon ...

I think the trio must've been watching the red-arrows doing a fly pass ..

Before too long they will be free to roam the big world.

They are getting more bold with climbing on the branches.

Both nests have been having hot weather today and one of the eaglets found some much needed shade ...

It was warm this weekend and with little shade it must have be torture for the eaglets.

I do have a soft spot for Celeste and Lunar, since day one they've seemed so chilled and easy-going ...

They are a relaxed duo. So well behaved. Being a day apart in age helped I guess.

No drama here between these two.

That said, your comments make me unexpectedly beginning to notice a twinge of melancholy foreboding as to what is waiting for them beyond the relative safety of the nest and parents watch gaze.

Anyday now one of the eaglets is going to be brave and take a flight away from the nest.


I think the first one to take the plunge will be one of the trio, they're slightly older than Lunar and Celeste. This one below almost took off yesterday..

and so did this one ..

unfortunately he landed on the back his unimpressed sibling




This must've felt like being in a wind tunnel for Lipstick

Look how crowed that nest is now ...

Lipstick and Guy have my respect for how well fed they've kept their trio who must be eating more and more as they grow.

50 miles away, Celeste and Lunar are also using their wings more ...

Its incredible when you compare this next photo which is from 4th April, just seven weeks ago ...

Ooo that's such a gorgeous photo Michelle these two are so happy together.





They now look almost the same size as their dad .. Freedom.

Meanwhile, one of these two couldn't help admiring his own cute feet ..

Was it Soap (from 2019) that fell from the tree and returned in a few days? I keep forgetting which one it was.

Yes it was Soap, I remember thinking he had gone forever because he was still quite small. I also recall how Freedom immediately flew in the direction Soap had fallen. It was about 5-6 days before she made it back to the nest, so Freedom and Liberty must have fed her on a lower down branch. Do you recall how sad Chat looked? he would spend hours looking over the edge of the nest looking for Soap.


We almost had a fall the other day from one of the trio ..

... luckily he regained his balance, but it was close.

I know what you mean, they will be out in the big world and have to look after themselves. Once they've fledged I often wonder how they are? and I'm always hoping they've not been attacked by a stronger bird. Part of me wishes we could get updates, but of course that's impossible as they are off .. ... flying free.

As we head into June it will be a time to say goodbye or at least start the process of seeing them leave. They may be around for a while after leaving the nest. It's hard seeing them go but so far it's been a successes except for the loss of #4.

Breaking News

One of Lipstick and Guys trio has fledged! Here's the big moment ..​

Apparently he was gone for about 10 minutes before making a safe return, what a brave bird :bravo1: .. I suspect Lipstick and Guy would be nearby somewhere keeping an eye on him.

So this is the start, it'll be interesting to see if his siblings give it a go soon.​

As we head into June it will be a time to say goodbye or at least start the process of seeing them leave. They may be around for a while after leaving the nest. It's hard seeing them go but so far it's been a successes except for the loss of #4.

I love watching them take their first flights, especially when they keep returning to the nest in-between, it gives us the luxury of saying a long goodbye.

#4 will always be remembered, I became very fond of the tiny guy with a big character.




The trio are now making a lot of use of 'the branch', one of them is always sat on upon it, the other night one of them actually slept on it .. very grown up behaviour indeed.

Celeste and Lunar haven't left the nest yet, but I think they're a few days behind the Trio. Anyway, they seem content enough to just watch the world go by from the fab view of their nest ..
